Notes from board on 1/12/12
Thank you Heather Ousley for sending these notes to me!
These are some quotes from our Madlibs game!
“And don’t cackle! It only takes 37 drinks to feel like a slimy water buffalo.”
“It was decided that a bikini wax strip needed to go around the village in order to protect them from their enemies.”
These are the notes from the board:
“What is a group?”
A bunch of random people
“Why groups?”
Teachers grade less
Learn to play well with others
Easily categorize people
Break down complex tasks
Social comfort/fit in & be part
To have a stronger voice
More effective than individuals (sometimes)
Forces trust
What is a team?
A bunch of random people working toward a common goal
Teams are made of individuals
What is the difference between a team and a group?
Unity
Purpose – form a cohesive unit
Build a team
Members of a team can be removed
Removed due to not doing their job, unskilled, attitude, disruptive (from goal), asked to be removed, not a “team” player

PROBLEMS WITH GROUPS:
communication breakdown
unfair grades
bossy group member who takes over and doesn't deliver
slackers
everything moves slower
meetings don't happen
off-topic conflict (personality clashes)
dumbasses effect groups too
socialize instead of work
leave someone out
diistractions while using distance solutions for meetings
shy people don't feel comfortable
they don't use all of my ideas
leader always gets blamed
people don't do assigned tasks
everyone wants to be the leader
dominance issues
people misrepresent what they did
personal politics
someone misrepresents their skills
different paces get annoyed with each other
too critical
not critical enough ("yes person")
unrealistic goals
technology gap
